Tim Roux
Tim Roux is a British writer, born in Hull in the North-East of England, a post-industrialised fishing town that is rapidly becoming quite a powerhouse of writing and music, much to everyone’s surprise. Tim worked in strategic marketing for a global corporation for 25 years before breaking his 30-year writer’s block in 2004 to publish “Blood & Marriage”, a series of short stories about a family in exile during a century of war, genocide and revolution. This was followed by “Little Fingers!”, a toe-curling novel exploring sexual morality, “Girl on a Bar Stool”, where a brand manager gets unwittingly ensnared in The Second Coming, “Shade+Shadows” about a charismatic healer with dubious but miraculous therapeutic techniques, “Fishing, for Christians”, which describes the world from a Gnostic Christian perspective, and “The Ghoul Who Once”, that recounts the tale of a twenty-something year old faced with a ghost who wants him to dig up her body. All six of these books interweave to constitute “The End of the World Sextet”. His seventh, and most popular book, “The Dance of the Pheasodile”, is the story of a London-based commercial architect who recovers from a hypnotic trance to find himself transformed into a penniless Hull gangster on the run from two local gangs, and with a ‘new’ wife who doesn’t like him much either. His current work-in-progress is “The Blue Food Revolution” about the travels and experiences of two people who are destined to become a couple in a seaside resort that worships a God-fish who visits the town annually.

Carla Rene

I was discovered as a child prodigy in both music and art at the age of 10. I play 15 instruments and have a 4 1/2 octave range in my voice–yeah, I’m a hard-wired weirdo. When I’m not acting professionally, I have a small web-design firm, do jewellery design, and I write–I added published author to my credits in 2002 with a story in Small Bites, and have been published in both the comedy and horror genres. I’m a professional stand-up comic, have had shows on NBC, performed in new comedies at the Kennedy Centre in DC, and had the privilege of studying improv comedy with Second City a few years ago.  I have also begun performing my own one-woman shows.

Mein katzen verstehen Deutsch, so now they ignore me in two different languages. I am Cherokee Indian (My grandmother was the daughter of our peace-time chief.), and German. Mein familie wanderte von Hamburg neunzehn zehn ein.

My mother had a stroke in December, 2002 and she’s been easier to get along with than in my entire life. We are now able to joke about it, but I have two agents waiting on my manuscript for that dark comedic novel. And between my father’s whistles and hand gestures, and my mother’s grunts and clicks, communication on that farm is a regular sit-com.

And finally, my dream is to travel to Salzburg, Austria and walk down a snow-covered street at the base of the Alps on Christmas Eve. And if I can’t afford that, then I’ll go to Chuckie Cheeze.

Personal Interests:
Keeping my pillow fluffed; my 2 maniacal cats; making sure I don’t have gunk in my teeth; staying on top of my acting/comedy writing skills; keeping my web-design clients happy; collecting all previous/present seasons of the following shows on DVD: Numb3rs, Criminal Minds, Emergency!, Absolutely Fabulous, Jeeves and Wooster and Father Ted; always creating new jewelry to sell, and last but not least, laying out the clothes I’m going to wear in the morning.

Genevieve Sawchyn -
I had no idea writing would become a passion until five years ago, when I started writing my first novel. Now “Under The Same Sky” has been picked up (along with a companion novel) by Berkley Publishing (a division of Penguin Books) and will be out in early 2012.

I have also gotten very busy with Night Publishing, working alongside Tim Roux with his brilliant idea for publishing books that are slightly outside the “mainstream”. He teases me constantly for being a mainstream writer (and historical romance, no less!), but I believe deeply in supporting the incredible writers out there whose work may otherwise never be read.

I also write articles for Celtic Life magazine, and the “Laurel” for Clan Graham (North America) – yes, I’m a wannabe Scot living in Nova Scotia.

I’ve been married for 17 years to a wonderful man who lets me stay home and write to my heart’s content (or until my fingers shut down), and two beautiful daughters, 12 & 10. They are both terrific writers, and even better people.

Stuart AkenStuart Aken
Stuart Aken, a writer born in the recently fertile city of Hull, on the north eastern coast of England, currently lives in a small market town in East Yorkshire. He has been writing for decades and, having finally decided his apprenticeship is served, is now putting his work before the public. His working life has been varied, mostly in management of one sort or another, but including farm labouring, press photography, graphic arts technician, travelling salesman and retail manager. Falling victim to CFS/ME in 2002, he now works part time for the local government authority, helping business people understand the vagaries of business rates.

His writing began in his late teens with illustrated articles for various photographic mags in the UK. He won a prize with the Radio Times for a radio play, Hitchhiker, which was broadcast by the BBC on Radio 4. His appetite for fiction writing thus sparked, he was persuaded by an agent to concentrate on further radio and television scripts. Many of these reached pre-production stage but, for various reasons, no more were broadcast. A lengthy spell of debilitating illness (not CFS) in his late 20s, stopped him writing for a while.

His first marriage ended after 18 years and his new wife, a supportive and loving woman, encouraged him to start writing again. He has had a number of short stories published and some success in short story contests, his latest being with the UK writing magazine, Writers’ Forum, for a sci-fi story called Rebirth, published in the January 2010 issue. Earlier this year, his first novel, Breaking Faith, was published, under the auspices of the UK Arts Council, by YouWriteOn. This tale of corruption versus innocence is set in the Yorkshire Dales, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, during the heat-wave of 1976.

He is now rewriting the first volume of a fantasy trilogy, untitled at present, which he describes as an adventurous quest set against a background allegory of organised religions and their flaws. Plenty of action combined with romance and philosophy. He will shortly be seeking a publisher for this work. He is also writing more short stories.
