Poor John Boehner, his chances for historic accords are fading into the sunset. For a while it looked like history making time, but now its just “chest beating time.”
Meanwhile Mitch McConnell’s secret plan has emerged! Too bad it’s the same secret plan we always use lately, “Blame the President.” His plan to pass legislation to allow the President to increase the debt limit on his own, there by taking all the responsibility and the blame, will give our glorious party three opportunities to vote against the President while assuring the passage of both the blame and the increase in the debt limit.
It’s just too bad that everyone has figured out that’s what’s going on. Making it kind of like covering your own eyes and announcing that no one can see you now.
Mitch: “Wow, It’s dark in here.”
It’s all part of our master strategy of changing our image from the “Party of No” to the “Party of Doh!” Which is our destiny since we’ve embraced the great unsung power voting blocks, Looneys, Bible thumpers and those conservatives whose right wing philosophies put them between Louis the 14th and Mexican drug lords.
It’s not easy building a platform where everything from Government projects to Credit Card reform is a “Job killer.” Even unemployment insurance is a job killer, even though there are 4 people showing up for every new job.
To keep up our master strategy of “Forward, into the past: Return of the old days,” we have to keep brushing up on our sleight of hand. A wave of the wrist and no one can see that 40 million registered tax payers don’t actually make the $17,000 per year to qualify for the lowest tax bracket. Now that’s an answer to Tax reform!
Another deft flourish of the hankie and presto! It no longer matters that there are 25 million more registered Democrats than Republicans. The independents love us, mostly because we use the word “independence”, and we use it a lot!
Meanwhile we need to provide cover for our key legislation like Representative Lamar Smith’s gambit to disallow the President’s ability to direct the Immigration and Naturalization Service to be more thoughtful in just who they deport. Not every President of course, just this one, the legislation is timed to run out after his potential second term. Everyone knows that there are almost 12 million illegals in the US and they all have to go, today. Bring forth the yellow Busses!
And now ladies and gentlemen, we take on the Bureau of Consumer Protection, a terrible cancer deep within the bowels of the Dodd-Frank act. With some deft manipulations the Bureau of Consumer Protection becomes, Taa Daa! The US department of Thinkology, who noble duty is to collect all consumer’s financial complaints and think really, really hard about them.
For our last and most amazing feat we defund the Patient Affordable Care act, which is one of the few things that actually got done in the last two years. Hey Presto! The glass of affordable medicine goes from half full to half empty, and all right before our very eyes! Any Democratic progress vanishes like asparagus farts in a windstorm.
This isn’t magic, it’s the power of “Everyone Knows….” That mysterious power that energizes and directs our awesome party. But it’s not easy to support that kind of knowledgeable platform. As it turns out there is quite a line of things that “everyone knows.” So many in fact, it’s going to be quite a packing job to get even half of them in. Here are just a few of the main tenants of our Democrat-smashing platform.
Everyone knows:
Global Warming is a fraud! It’s the radiation from scheming climate science that is melting the poles at twice the predicted rate.
Trickle down economics is just about to work. Raising taxes on corporations and affluent americans will stop the coming rain of riches from falling on the middle class. When you see the golden shower, be sure to open your mouth.
The United States is a Christian nation. It’s not spelled out in the constitution because that’s what Freedom of religion means.
Everyone who considers repealing tax cuts or (gasp) raising taxes is a socialist. They actually want to be a communists, but haven’t figured out how to get their food stamps to pay for a brown shirt.
Regulation is bad for America. Clean air, water, and all this talk of fair dealing in finance are Job killers. (In fact, just about everything not on our multistage platform is a job killer.)
Tort reform is necessary to protect hard working honest corporations from the depredations of crazy juries. A million dollars for a coffee burn? So what if she couldn’t walk for two years, where the hell was she going anyway?
Good medical coverage makes America’s citizens sicker. Give a citizen comprehensive medical coverage and they’ll be going to the doctor every year!
Unemployment insurance is a job killer, Americans should be ashamed to collect it. Never mind that they’ve paid in to the system their collecting from, what’s next? We all want our social security?
You see? There’s just so many things everyone knows. It’s amazing we have room in our heads for all this knowledge. But there’s a place for every scrap of true American knowledge right here on the platform of the Party of Doh!

You are soooo on top of everything Prentiss. The government has proven to be incredibly talented in it’s undertakings and those stupid Republicans you are soooo embarrassed to belong to keep detracting from Obama’s string of successes. You and Kay should run in tandem for public office. You can take the chief executive issues and she can oversee the military.

Prentiss, global warming is not so much the issue as blaming it specificaly on CO2. Time will tell but it is no more than a fashionable hoax. Eventualy it would and could become an issue but no where near at present levels.
Trickle down economics can and will work if the tax structure encourages reinvestment, research and growth, simply encouraging the accumalation of wealth through assets is disastrous for our economy.
We have for the most part a Christian culture in this country, just like any other country the citisens happen to like the culture they live in, we do have freedom of religeon in this country but sometimes we feel we are a majority being tromped on by our own laws.
Of course we need some regulation, corporatios as well as individuals tend to take advantage of every opportunity they can find, but at the same time competition and simply being responsible for decisions bad and good should take the place of a lot of regulations. If someone makes bad investments because they are greedy they need to learn their are risks involved.
Good medical coverage and free medical coverage are not the same. When Dr’s are being used as drug pushers, elective and cosmeticsurgery are being passed off as needed surgeries we have problems. Massive fraud in the health care system, it has the potential almost by itelf to bankrupt this country.
As for Tot reform, hell yes we need it. The shame is how do we make it honest where those with legit injuries can be fairly compensated. I know of hundreds of fraudulent cases, I only know of a few legit cases.

You’re not getting much love here, Prentiss. Take comfort in the fact that your critics can’t spell, nor do they know the difference between “its” and “it’s.”

Prentiss…hilarious analogy!
I agree with “tort reform”
I think that given all the problems that are at, we need to focus on something that there is not at all a real democratic, constitutional and humane way to handle the issue that not only compromises these important and just topics you discuss, but rather it adds fuel to the fires to them. What am I talking about? Population increase! Whatever means we go by to solve these problems is simply extenuatory. Over 7 billion people exist on this planet. In a roughly 13 years we will have 8 billion. I think curbing human growth is the biggest issue we face. We can’t get people jobs, we can’t give them medical care that makes sense,jobs..well do I have to go there, tort reform..speaks for itself, and global warming seems likely never to slow down even. Abortion issues will not be an issue, only John Brown’s will be against it because of it’s moral scope but yet most will have to understand the unfortunate need to slow down the human reproductive cycle and the steps we must take. Think about this for a second. In 1960 or so, we had 3 billion people. I could go on and on…

Have to agree that population control is a huge nut to crack. So far only the Chineese have made a stab at that. I have no idea how the US could get a handle on that.
As for “not getting much love” it was expected. Although I always appreciate what SteveG has to say, his arguments are measured and civil. I really wish we would get more posts along with the comments.

Richard the simple fact that you feel a personal attack is in order when someone has a differeing opinion is a much bigger display of ignorance than my poor grammar and spelling. I have never had a problem with Prentiss as I appreciate where his motives are comming from.

I don’t care to be rude. Let me point out something though. I read this site regularly but comment only once in a while. I have noticed your regular “Embarrassed Republican” posts and also many of the comments you make.
It seems that you never agree with the Republican Party on anything. I realize that the party is a wide tent, but your comments are often very left wing; more representative of the left flank of the Democrat party. It is like you are a closet Democrat. I have never seen where you disagree with much the Democrat party does. As a registered Independent, I notice partisan slants very easily as I agree with both parties sometimes, and profoundly disagree with both parties at times.
With your attitudes in general, I wonder why you are a registered Republican. Perhaps the thing which should embarrass you should be that Party registration…
I mean this comments in a good natured way…

The right wing of the Republicans are so far out there they make Eisenhower look like a “lefty.”
As I’ve said many times I’m a fiscal conservative and a social progressive, I believe in investment in the country which means investment in it’s people. The US is not a country it’s a nation of people. People who deserve better than the claptrap and shenanigans my party has been giving them for the past 10 years. In 2000 the deficit was almost no existent and the national debt was falling. After two terms in power the former republican administration damn near bankrupted the country. It was de-regulation, mis-information, bad decisions and very poor economic planning that got us here. However, I was Republican then and that makes it just as much my responsibility as the biggest nut case in the party.
It’s time to drop the partisanship and really listen to the good advice rather than picking the advisors who we want to hear. I’m so sick when I watch this once great political organization being railroaded into some of the dumbest stances I’ve ever heard. I’m tired of the left and the middle of the party standing by and either leaving or watching in silence. I’m not going down without a fight.

Responsible management of the peoples treasury, protection from foreign armies and creation of a right to work environment are three fundamental obligations of ethical government. A Post Office that posts a $14 Billion deficit annually and has no hopes of becoming self supporting due to union demands and inefficiency is irresponsible. This “sink hole” support is common throughout much of government. Companies outsource when it makes for better service and lower costs, so should government where the peoples treasury is at stake. Government is not entitled to take others money and then buy votes with it, – they have a fiduciary responsibility to honor their position, or they become oppressors.
It was Clinton who signed NAFTA in cahoots with corporate leaders that started the landslide of jobs to offshore sites. Bush ran up deficits with a needless protracted ground war in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as social programs. Obama has made Bush look like a skinflint, expanding war fighting, bailing out Wall Street bankers friendly to his cause, reverse discrimination and taking taxpayers monies to reward unions who support him.
Mark W. is right about your political stance, an apparent fraud, registering in one party and rigorously defending brain dead policies of liberals that only exacerbate our economic woes. Obama is not stupid, he is corrupt and out to bring about Marxism, where everybody loses except the elite and their agents of destruction like himself. Anyone who believes that Bush, Clinton, Soros, Rockefeller or many other notable names of influence are out to serve the people not only lack discernment of what is happening in America, they are the “useful fools” Lenin talked about. Adolescence is the trademark characteristic of the mind numbing liberal movement. Life is a precious gift, but it comes with responsibility, one must provide for oneself at some point unless severely handicapped. Childish and lazy liberals cannot suckle at the mothers breast for generations.
It is human nature to seek protection and sustenance, but large segments of our population are frightened little children or lazy corrupt bastards that want someone else to pay for their sloth in getting themselves educated or trained in useful skills. Welfare, abortion and public assistance have been taken to the limits, and abused by chronic failures in human character.
The American people have always been among (if not THE) most generous people in the world when legitimate needs are publicized. But there is a limit to generosity and it is not the governments responsibility to tax people to pay off “slaves on the government dole”, in the pursuit of votes and solidifying power. Obama had a totalitarian government for his first two years and our deficit grew at an unprecedented rate. It is all about control of the masses and wealth and privilege of the elite.

Thank you David for so clearly illustrating exactly what I was talking about. Obama bailed out Wall street?

An example of a personal attack is calling someone ignorant, Steve. Pointing out deficiencies in his or her use of the language in a public posting is a simple and justifiable criticism.
In your last post, you have a misspelling and an egregious syntactical error. I would think you would try harder when complaining about being criticized for poor writing. Since this program includes spell-check, I have to conclude that you are too lazy to bother using it. Doesn’t surprise me, because laziness is a hallmark of the right wing. Intellectual laziness, that is, most commonly seen in the right’s practice of coming to a conclusion and then seeking arguments to back it up.
Now that’s a personal attack. See the difference? Glad I could help.
You seem to be an expert at attempting to baffle everyone with intellectual bullshit. But thank you for the tip on spellcheck, I wasn’t aware we had it on this sight. Next time I post I will try and figure out how to use it. I have my own areas of accomplishment, writing is actually one of them thanks to good editors.
Just a question here Richard, what is wrong with comming to a conclusion and then seeking arguements to back it up? don’t we all do this?
Honestly Richard, Steve’s opening remarks did not denigrate anyone. As someone who likes to write I believe he is trying out his wings, albeit not flawlessly. Who is not guilty of flawed grammar at time? There is no requirement to be a grammar expert on this forum and several college educated liberals make mistakes as well.
Separate subject, liberals versus conservatives is not without truth on both sides. Conservatives advocate free speech and liberals have a long list of unapproved words in their lexicon of PC. If the intellectuals reside on the liberal side, why is it the students are coming out dumber and dumber and liberals are manipulating test scores to portray a better education system than exists? If their is evidence that socialism works for the betterment of the citizens at large, which country is your paragon of success? If rampant socialism and union controlled work places are not taking down countries in Europe (sans Germany), who do you offer as evidence in support of your theory?
If multiculturalism is working why are European leaders saying it has failed and their treasuries under severe stress? Is not the invasion of illegal immigrants seeking unearned benefits overtaxing hospitals, jails and social services funded by a shrinking minority of tax paying workers? Is failure to enforce existing laws like immigration because of a political disposition to enlist them in one party rule justified? Does the “in party” (whoever they are) elected as a trusted body of the people, have the moral right to trick f**k the system to achieve a remake of a country that people around the world would love to come to, and thrilled to try and be successful in? Is not the insurrection underway sedition managed by clever lawyers exploiting the system? Should the inner cities crammed with the least educated and least skilled workers be converted to indentured voting servants so the wealthy can get wealthier and toss crumbs to the same inner city dwellers for their faithful, mindless vote?
Exactly, how is life better for the average citizen with rampant unemployment, blatant union bribery and a leader whose every word has to be screened to find a kernel of truth?

To page up a few comments, perhaps what we need is a bunch of abortions and a good ole dictator to kill off a couple billion so we can control the population. That’s a real freedom loving idea if ever I saw one. Maybe a couple of nukes would fix it. And think of all of the jobs the fallout will create in order to clean-up the mess. And then all of the mass graves to be dug; quite good for the “global economy.”
Perhaps instead, we could invest in NASA and charge it with finding a way to get the extra billions onto other planets.
As to CO2, without it we wouldn’t be here…
And on to the more interesting part of this thread…
Prentiss has the right to say he is a Republican and live with self-loathing if he wishes.
The problem these days is the sleight of hand, to whit both parties are beholden to the same masters and pretend to give a sh*t about us, all while jamming it in deeper.
In my view, the difference in the parties is the amount of KY applied prior to the pentration we will get.
I’ll take freedom and opportunity over the self-sacrifice and envy required in socialism. History is neck deep in incidence of bloodshed to throw off the yoke of tyranny, such bloodshed I hope we can avoid in the future. But the bankrupt policies and applied socialism in the country and the world seem to be taking us down the well-worn path.
While we busy ourselves arguing over blame rather than finding real solution, the Titanic sinks…

Michael, I was simply saying we are overpopulated. I really do not condone abortion in most aspects, I am against using Nukes in most aspects, however, I am not sure what to do with the Middle East. It would make a great parking lot! I think the possibility of populating another planet is hundreds of years away. How many people will there be on earth in say…200 years? Anyway, I think promoting better sexual practices as well contraception needs racketed up for single moms, teenagers and obviously harsher immigration control. Why imigration control? They prosper in the U.S. and they know if they have children born here they gain instant citizanship. I could go on and on….

CO2 is a facinating topic, something like 87% of earths oxegen comes from algae. CO2 is what feeds the algae, the oxegen is removed and the carbon is left behind to bond with something else. Levels have been steadily falling for millions of years until recently. Maybe unlocking some of the co2 in fossil fuels and putting it back in the amosphere to feed life is what this earth needs for it’s long term survival. I think it was our President Obama who suggested we have a co2 tax on cows flagelance.

Oh Mad, I knew what you meant, and probably agree with you in many aspects. I was just making a little light of it, and the context of socialism. I wonder what corporation would handle the Tehran division of that parking lot?!
Have you seen the “Torchwood” program on Starz. The start is that no one in the world dies any longer, and the implications of that. Quite a thought process there. There are more story lines of course, but the show goes down a similar road…
I would agree that contraception is important for multiple reasons, and the whole single mom thing is bad for the world in general as well as the children. Immigration must be fixed as well…
An understanding of the greenhouse/terraforming process changes ones thoughts on CO2. I don’t see it as a poison, but rather the cycle of life. From CO2 to oxygen and back to CO2. Such is as it is… So how can we tax that! The nits are always there with a hand out to participate in everything they had nothing to do with…the tick still feeds, but when will the host die from the meal?

I think your title for this piece is not very nice at all. Representative John Boehner, also Speaker of the House, is our representative from West Chester, Ohio. I had a problem with the the railroad locomotives standing across the street for hours burning diesel fuel that was polluting our air. I wrote to Rep. Boehner in behalf of our community to help stop this wasteful and dangerous activity. Well, it took several months of working with him and RR schedulers but the problem was solved. Rep. Boehner has earned my respect.
