Ann,

Abdominal breathing seems to be the key to all the Eastern energy arts--tai chi chuan, qigong, yoga and TM. I've taught qigong classes--moving qigong, as most Americans want to move so they feel they are actually doing something. What I always stressed is that if they came away from anything in the class, it was abdominal breathing. Simple but profound.

I know in the Catholic tradition that saying the rosary beads is vital; it becomes a meditation as the repeated words start to make no sense and one forgets to think. It's profound, but could be more so with the addition of abdominal breathing.

Well said. I agree that breathing deeply from your abdomen is so important to truly good health. We do it so unconsciously - yet by being mindful to do it correctly it can do amazing things - as you attest by your good health all these years after after four bouts of cancer. Sometimes it is the basic, simple things that matter most.
